I prefer the New American Standard Bible
I didn't grow up in a Bible-believing household. My parents took us to church only a handful of times. I didn't start reading the Bible until I was in my late teens. I read through the Bible in a year by the time I was in my 30's and since then, about 5 times completely.
The King James was the first Bible I became familiar with. I was an excellent reader, in school and the words of the King James translation didn't confuse me at all. It was only when I finally excepted the Lord Jesus Christ in 1978 that I finally bought a Bible of my own. I choose it randomly from a clearance table at a Bible book store. The NASB seems to be just enough of the King James translation that keeps me thinking in a more elaborate, almost classic style.
